Taking
the time to see and listen is what the artist does. What we see is
not always the biggest and brightest but often the small and seemingly
inconsequential. What we hear is the voice of the muse in private
conversation with us. We listen and look and sometimes argue with
the muse while deciding to heed that wisdom or plug along alone. I
choose to listen; I try to see, but I have no intention of duplicating
what is all around me. Instead, I try to capture the essence of what
is there, a feeling or some sort of recognition. I want the viewer
to feel a connection to the work, a resonance of their own, a feeling
of having been to that place in some way. Too much information gets
in the way of your story and I always want your story to be in my
work.

| ABOUT
ME |
|
I
am an artist who prefers to remain anonymous. Everyone writes their
story, some are interesting, some are not, some grandiose, some
humble. At any rate, I’m a painter and I feel the paintings
should speak for themselves. Where I’ve been, who I’ve
studied with, what awards I’ve won are irrelevant. You either
like the image or you don’t, it’s that simple.
|
| LANDSCAPES |
|
My
landscapes come from memories of places I’ve been, pictures
I’ve seen or just out of my imagination. I begin work with
an idea which rarely ends up as I started. At some point the muse
takes over and surprises me, as I work and wonder what life the
painting is taking on. In the end I stand back and see that while
I have created I am hardly the creator.

| WATER |
|
The
water paintings came from my lap swimming. As I swam back and forth
entering into the rhythm of my strokes, immersed in the water, I
began thinking of how to paint what I was feeling. I wanted to capture
the quiet, calm meditative feeling of immersion.

| CIRCLES |
|
Circles
represent wholeness or the striving for wholeness. Some of the oldest
recorded images are circles dating back ten thousand years by unknown
people that we are still connected to. We move in circles, our actions
become circular. I leave these images and return to them again and
again. Maybe they are nothing more than simple circles but then
it’s the simple things in life that hold the truths.
